What Would Gregory Peck Ride?

In addition to bicycling, one of my other big interests is vintage shopping. This can be anywhere — thrift shops, barn sales, yard sales, and even auction houses. So imagine my delight when I saw a slew of bicycles up for auction at Weschler’s, one of my favorite DC auction houses.

A cheery red and white chopper-style bike was the first to catch my eye.

However, this vintage ebony Rudge was the real showstopper, thoroughly capturing my attention once I saw it.

A classic beauty with wonderful details, something I imagine Gregory Peck would ride — in a suit, of course.

There were mountain and road bikes in the mix, too, but they didn’t do much for me. I just think I will never get over my love of classic uprights. Nor do I think I need to.

Happy riding!

In Gear on Gallery Place

DC’s Seventh St NW is always a sure place to find cyclists zipping through the city. The gorgeous Monday that just passed was no exception. I couldn’t get my camera out fast enough to get all the folks pedaling past (especially while riding myself!), but did manage to capture one colorful cyclist waiting for the light to change at the intersection near Friendship Arch. A perfect moment to pause while enjoying the ride.
