Mourning Rides

by bonjourbicycle

It’s been a few tough weeks around here. I recently lost a loved one and had to take a break from writing. I’ve still been riding, though, which has been a help for me. I generally don’t like driving around DC — I’m always this frustrated ball of energy — but riding is a different story. Especially now that the weather is cooler, and the paths and roads less crowded, riding helps calm me down and soothe my mind. I find myself slowing near the bends around the Potomac in the mornings in particular, watching the sun creep up, the geese huddled together, the air damp and cool as I breathe. It doesn’t change anything, of course. But for a moment anyway, I feel more connected and at peace.
